Caelum was formed by Lacaille, who described it first. He took it from the stars between Columbo and Eridanus. It comes to the meridian with the star Aldebaran on the 10th of January and is visible from the 40th parallel.
The English version of Caelum is “Sculptor’s Tool” or “Graving Tool”, not to be confused with the separate constellation, Sculptor.
