Apus is located south of Crater and Hydra, bordering on the Vela of Argo. It is described as The Bird of Paradise. It lies immediately below the Southern Triangle only 13° from the southern pole.
The bird of paradise for which Apus is named, was found in Papua, New Guinea. Dutch sailors named this constellation. Another translation is “Bird without Feet.”
