about us

Starting in 1979, International Star Registry made the heavens available to star gazers everywhere wishing to give a name to a star that had only been numbered in previous star catalogs. The names of stars are indexed alphabetically in our star catalog with their telescopic coordinates and are permanently recorded in our published, copyrighted listing of named stars. The stars are recorded in this way so that centuries from now our descendants can locate these star names with their telescopic coordinates. 10 volumes of the book Your Place in the Cosmos (Library of Congress Catalog No. 84-63015) containing the names of stars recorded with International Star Registry have been published and registered in the copyright office of the United States. The coordinates are derived from the NASA Hubble Guide Star Catalog and each star is named only once.

Naming a star is unique honor that will shine forever. The star package will include a beautiful International Star Registry certificate with the name of the star and telescopic coordinates, a sky chart with the star’s location indicated and circled, a digital photographic sky image of your star’s0 location, and additional information about astronomy.

Know ye further that this star will henceforth be known by this name. This name is permanently filed in The Registry’s vault in Switzerland and recorded in a book which will be registered in the Copyright Office of the United States of America.

Your digital star package will arrive within 24 hours of your order. If you have requested a printed package, your package will be shipped to arrive within 4-6 weeks via USPS First Class Mail.

Yes, the sky is mapped into 88 constellations, and you may select any constellation you like. Zodiac signs are very popular. There are also many other constellations familiar to avid stargazers! If you do not choose a constellation, we will be happy to select a constellation for you viewable from your location.

By publishing all of the star names with their telescopic coordinates, we have selected the most enduring method of recordation available. Each star name is permanently recorded in our book Your Place in the Cosmos©. The book is registered with the US Copyright Office and a copy of the book is stored in a vault in Switzerland. Additionally, we maintain your name in our database in perpetuity.

Several companies have opened up over the years, some violating our Federally Registered trademarks STAR REGISTRY®, INTERNATIONAL STAR REGISTRY®, and STARREGISTRY.COM® directly or using names that violate the trademarks by being confusingly similar, but they are not International Star Registry, and they are not affiliated with us. None have published a catalog recording the names of stars. Many of these firms have closed, leaving no records of named stars. The numbers of bright or visible stars many of these firms claim to name exceeds the actual number of visible stars in the sky.

International Star Registry produces the ONLY permanently published and copyrighted listing of named stars in the world. We are headquartered in Northbrook, IL, USA and are a member of the Better Business Bureau with an A+ rating.
